Large, Drilled Brake Upgrade...

Hi All,

I'm looking to upgrade my brakes. I have an '01 4.4 and just upgraded my wheels to the 20" Style 87s and the brakes look whimpy! I would like something with the look of the brembo big brake kit but for much less money! If anyone can recommend good, large, drilled brakes that'd be great!

Thanks,

Jason

So you aren't looking for any improvement in actual braking, just look cool.

Well, in that case you could probably get a cross-drilled rotor. The stock rotors are huge on the X5 and if you plan to get a larger system you would need calipers and everything else moving you into the multiple thousands of dollars, probably more then your wheels cost. IMO, if you just want to look neat, buy some drilled rotors of eBay.

I put Brembo's drilled rotors on and every time I get into my car I get a little stiffy looking at the rotors. Here's some pictures:

jtphillips: Here's what I did: Raceshopper.com cross-drilled Nickel-plated rotors for the 4.6,4.8 (these have a larger diameter than the Brembos from ebay). Powdercoat then candy-coat the calipers to the color of the X (estoril blue), with the M motorsport emblem on each. Braided brake lines et al. 22" Forgiato Vizzos (satin finish) in the summer, 87s in the winter. Stand back and watch heads turn and jaws drop.........
