Trying to locate BT module in 2005 X3 - Do i even have one?

Sorry, guys for posting, but i have read many posts and am still confused as to where my BT module is, or even if i have one.
I have a telephone option on my nav screen, have the sos button on the header and my phone will locate my car in pair mode and ask for the passkey, but unfortunately i bought my 2005 X3 CPO and never had the passkey.
I've read many threads and tried to locate the BT module in the cargo area but am still confused.
I've attached a pic of what my cargo area looks like...
I know i have my nav system in black in the main area, my amp is top right, and there is a silver box under the navigation unit.
Is that the BT module? I tried taking out the two front screws on this unit, which made it looser, but still couldn't get it out to look at properly. Any ideas?
I've read posts that said it should be under the cargo floor, but as you can see i would have to dismantle most of the cargo area to get at it if true.
Is it possible for my phone to locate the head unit, but not have the BT module?
I asked my local BMW dealer if they could look at this for me, but they wanted to charge me $200 for doing it, so I've been trying to figure this out on and off for a year now, so any help would be great

Hi,

I just found mine the other day. There is a post here somewhere that has a great pic by pic showing where it is and where to get the passkey.
The bt module is actually on the back left floor side. It's not in your picture. Pull the back matt out and you'll have to unscrew three screws on the left side just down from your picture. You'll then pull the plastic cover up and underneath it will be your bt module if you have it with the passkey.

Do another search here b/c I know I saw a really good write up on it.
Good luck!

Thanks Bunyan, i was hoping not to have to do that, but will try...
I found a link like the one you mentioned, but when i looked at my car, it was nothing like the one described.
If i pull the back mat out, i have a black foam insert which goes across the entire cargo area, and holds things such as the tools, the ski kit etc.
If i have to take this out, i also have to remove the cargo tie down runners. To remove these runners, i also have to undo the plastic moulding on the inside of the read door/bumper area.
I've tried to do this in the past, then stopped thinking there has to be an easier way...
I've attached another pic of what it looks like in the back with the mat out..

Sorry, I just noticed you have an X3 (still on my first cup of coffe). I'm not sure where they keep the module on the X3. I was thinking of the X5.
I'm surprised the local dealership was going to charge you $200 for pulling the passkey number. Hopefully somebody else will chime in with more knowlege.
Sorry, I'm not much help to you.
Good luck.

Appreciate your attempts though Bunyan.
I've not had much joy with my local dealership, aside from the BT thing, i bought a new Nav DVD from them for about $200 only to put it in and find it didn't work unless i updated the software on the Nav unit. They quoted me over $200 to update it, so i have a new expensive DVD that i can't use...

You can update your own OS. Read these forums for the instructions on how to find the OS and download it or buy the disk from the dealer. The disk costs about $10. I have posted the disk P/N here many times (nav forum).

I think the module is in the lower left rear also with a big 54 pin plug and cable to it.

Gary,

Yes, you have bluetooth. It is the gray module below your navigation drive and below your Sirius unit. it is all the way tucked at the bottom mounted to its own bracket. I can see it from the picture that you posted.

That grey piece of foam in the bottom is not the BT unit. I can take a picture of mine later, but it sits right at the bottom, below the DVD bracket and is separate from it.

It says BMW Telematics on it or something like that, with all the numbers on the top.

Does the SOS button in your headliner actually have the button? The black plastic piece is just the cover and opens to reveal a separate button. I have that too if you want a picture.
