Now I'm more confused than ever are TCU from Nav/DSP/Premium different?

Been reading dozens of bluetooth threads and my brain has been turned to mush.

I've got an early 04 E53 (Production 5/14/04) with S639A Preparation f mobile phone cpl. USA/CDN and S676A HiFi - No Nav, No DSP.

From everything I've read, my TCU won't actually do bluetooth, but a swap with a newer TCU should be plug and play.

Are there differences in the TCU's on Nav and/or DSP equipped cars?

Can I get a TCU from any 05/06 E53, E46, Z4?

Many thanks

I just installed a 10/04 TCU into my 4/04 built X5. It was a plug and play and it works perfect.

Thanks. I haven't had much time to do any real troubleshooting, but I think that my problem is in my wiring (could be just a fuse). Neither my new TCU nor my original one shows up when I run diagnostics. If spring ever arrives, I'll get my multimeter out and check for power, CAN signals at the connector and work from there.
