The Mic wire went up the drivers side pillar and mounted on the rear view mirror. I changed the location since placing it in the OEM mic location prevented treble from being picked up by the mic. Friends tell me that it sounds like I was talking with my hand over my mouth.

Awesome write-up. How did that sub work out for you in such a small enclosure? I've got a single 8 in something about that size, and it definately leaves more to be desired. I've been following along w/ ZeroChief's 10" box that is a very close duplicate of what BSW makes in dimensions, then uses a Pioneer shallow sub. Have you considered remaking your box for more volume or does that Kicker sound good in that enclosure?
BTW - love the bezel idea w/ the bass knob, but $250 is steep for a chunk of plastic . What does the other knob do, or is it just for uniformity.

The Sub actually is excellent. I have 400W RMS going into it and the specs on the sub allows for a small enclosed enclosure. Not all subs allow for small enclosures. The sub is enough to shake the mirrors and rattle the spoiler. I ended using some dynamat on the inside of the spoiler and the body right behind the sub.
Here are the specs for the Kicker sub 8" L5 Min Rec Sealed Box Volume (CU. FT., Liters).33, 9.4Max Rec Sealed Box Volume (CU. FT., Liters).75, 21.2 Min Sealed Box = .33 cubic feet Max Sealed Box = .75 cubic feet As for the bezel I know it is expensive but I do have to argue it. I do not have any ties to the seller but I will have to admit that it is very good quality. It is made of ABS plastic and its much thicker and harder to the touch than I expected. I thought it would be flimsy but I was wrong and it looks very stock. The stock look was necessary for me since I sometimes park the car in less desirable areas. Almost everyone who got in the car did not notice that the radio was not stock. Funny how everyone comments on how good the ipod integration was on the BMW. LOL. The second knob has a rotary switch attached behind it and its connected to switch the headrest monitor on/off. Min Rec Sealed Box Volume (CU. FT., Liters).33, 9.4Max Rec Sealed Box Volume (CU. FT., Liters).75, 21.2 |

I just can't decide if I wanna stick w/ the 8" in the smaller enclosure and not deal w/ the extra work needed to customize it myself, or go bigger. Going bigger would make for a louder sub one would naturally assume, but then i'm also stuck the idea of going w/ larger enclosure and using the 8" (min .33) to give it more breathing room or go w/ the 10" (min .65) and get as much cone as possible. What made you decide to choose the L5 over say the Pioneer shallow everyone has used?

What made me decide was the power rating. The L5 can handle more RMS power with a smaller foot print. I believe the L5 also has a bigger and heavier magnet. In my opinion the pioneer was made to fill a nitch in the market but subs designed this way will not sound as good as the traditional subs. Otherwise there will be no reason for manufacturers to buld these giant subs.
I have not heard the shallow pioneer and I can be totally wrong but it seems like the better subs are heavy and deeper. The deeper the sub the more room it has to move up and down in turn moving more air. |

I did read general reviews of thin vs normal subs, and while both get the job done, the things simply couldn't hit the low notes due to lack of voicecoil movent. At this point I'm flipping a coin between the L5 8" or 10" depending on what these guys say http://forum.soundillusions.net/30-c...5.html?t=68335 since this is more their territory.
