Rear entertainment
I'm having a problem with my rear entertainment system. The tv screen doesn't power up and come on? I can hear the 6 disk changer doing its thing but, nothing lights up on the changer itself indicating there's a dvd or cd in there? I checked the rear fuses but all is well there. I'm having trouble finding the other fuse box, behind the glove box? I can't seem to drop the glove box for some reason, maybe cuz I'm afraid I'll break it. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Benny |

What style Rear Entertainment system do you have? There are a couple of these systems but I think one of them has 2 independent screens and the other has a single screen.
The system with 2 independent screens hooks into the seat back and has a mounting bracket which mounts to the back of the seat so the head restraint can continue to move in the manner it's designed to move without interference with the display. The system with the single screen is mounted at the rear of the center console and has a flip up / flip down positioning to the screen so when it's not in use, you can flip it down so that it's out of the way and protected. Chances are, the problem you're having regardless of which system it is, would be one of two things. Either there's a loose connector or the electronics within the display driver went bad. If you're lucky, it's just a connector that developed a poor connection over time. Look for a wiring diagram of the display. I believe if you have the single display system, the connector would be located somewhere beneath the center console. You may have to remove the center console - or loosen it so that you can lift it up and follow the wiring harness to locate the connector under the console. I'm going to guess that the connector would be in that area because BMW systems are pre-wired for many options like the Rear Entertainment system so that the installer has a minimal installation job to add a device like a Rear Entertainment unit. Also, since the display is what you need to add onto a system like yours to have that functionality installed in your car, the manufacturer of the display unit would likely have a short pig-tail harness with a connector on it that wouldn't be more than a foot or two in length at its maximum length so you should be able to locate the connector near the display. There could be other connectors elsewhere in the vehicle closer to the head unit but the only way to know is to have the wiring diagram. And if you're unlucky, the electronics themselves have gone bad. The only way you'd know if this is the case is to put a known good unit in its place and if it works, then put the re-connect the problematic bad unit and you can conclude that it's more than likely the unit you have installed now that went bad. It's not a guarantee but this is a way to determine if it's likely to be a bad unit. Good luck figuring out why the system isn't working. I hope it's just a connector and that it's easy for you to find near the console. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
