MKII to MK IV swap result in white screen

Hello,
I am new to this forum and posting from france.
I have an early (built july 00) E53 3.0l .
It came with 4:3 screen and MKII unit.
Yesterday I changed the screen for a secondhand 16:9 bought from ebay (coming from a 03 E53) and it worked fine with the MKII unit.

Today I tried to change the unit for a seconhand MKIV (built 03) coming from an E46. I have reconnected the two connectors and the antenna leaving the black connector from the antenna module un connected.
All I get is a white screen . Only the radio still works.
I have tried to remove the GPS fuse (number 7) and reconnect it but this is still not working. The only difference is that the OBC has switched from french to german.

Any idea what I should do ????

Thanks for a great site anyway

Wingburger

One more thing if this may help:

I have just tried swapping back the two units and everything works fine with the MKII.

I wonder if the MKIV unit is faulty (german seller is positive it was working when removed) or if more simply it is uncorrectly coded to a E46 and not to my E53 . Having said that I suppose it should still see the rest of the functions on the screen (OBC, TV, VENT....)

I am totally puzzled !

I guess MKIII and MKIV are the same for all BMWs
Just be patient.. Someone will come up with a solution for your problem... It is still too early in the US + it is Saturday

Sure it's not a MONOCHROME version of the Mk4 as used in the Business Nav installation?

What is the part code on the Nav Computer? IIRC if it ends in M it's mono, if it ends in C it's a colour one. It can be recoded though using Navcoder and an i-bus interface.

Post up the part number and model number and Kiwijochen will be able to help you.

+1 - post a picture of the parts number stickers on the top. Or, type in all of the part number information. It could have been coded for a monochrome system.

The unit can still be seen on ebay item number: 260331156143

on the label it says

6590 9 154 053-01
145067 10

FRANCE

09-03

BMWNRR202-59
A2C53253222

FD02 0063522
HW 1.0.1 / SW 8.0

FD0203370063522

hope this helps !

I have tried to load a V29 software version from a CD I had to see what happens. The CD stayed in the unit for a while and was rejected after a couple of minutes.

There is typically another label on the nav computer that shows the VIN and other information about the car in which it was originally installed. Does this nav computer have this other sticker? That is the one that will tell you if it is coded for monochrome or color.

Hi Brian,

Yes it does have one label on each side.

One says:

ALS: 0478109
LO: TL255-5

*6060801*
AT - 0W

Another label on the same side says S.V.

On the other side I have more codes:

Model No 22SY588/23
INDUS VDO 0123456789
PROD No FD0203370063522

and another small sticker says 226

This is all I can see......

Unfortunately some navs never had the VIN sticker fitted.

Only way to tell is to read the coding using NavCoder.
If it is a mono unit (which I am 95% sure it is) then a recode with NavCoder will fix it.
You need my NavCoder app (from www.siegenthaler.co.nz), an ibus interface, an an OS disc. Use V32 OS, it's the latest.
