Be advised. Stomping around in your size 10's clicking buttons for changing the mono to colour may well brick your Nav unit.

Get the instructions from Jochen, follow them carefully. Burn the CD with imgburn on MODE2/FORM1 at the slowest native speed (usually 4x these days)

noted

Point noted BB - I wear 9's so hopefully should be OK . Am leaving well alone now until I track down some further instructions.

Hopefully it will all work out!

Thanks

If it all fails, you can also send it to me in Australia for a hard reflash to standard Mk4 colour config. You only need to send the main circuit board (ie mk4 minus frame, dvd drive, front panel, lids).

Further problems :-(

Hi All,

Firstly, thanks for the help and advice - much appreciated.

So - here is the latest set of events. I burnt an OS downloaded from megaupload using imgburn etc. All seemed to be fine.

I then used navcoder to interrogate the nav to check there was an OS on there which there was. Then coded 'defaults' to the nav and it asked for an OS to which I duly inserted the OS I burnt. It then ran for 10 mins or so and ejected. Still nothing on the screen at the front.

So I think that I might have burnt a rubbish OS which the nav unit did not like.

I rang the BMW stealer for a genuine V32 disc - £235.... so that is not an option either.

Is there anyone that could help me out with this? I admit I am pretty much out of ideas and out of my comfort zone! I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could provide!

Autotronic - you said that I could send the chip to you to be flashed to colour etc. How would I go about this and how much would it cost (I think Roy in GA asked a similar question). PM me or post if this is an option and we can arrange. Once this is done, I put it back into my MK4 unit and it should work?

Sorry for any ignorance etc. I am on a pretty steep learning curve!

Thanks in advance

Chris

One step at a time dude. Get the nav updated without using navcoder by inserting the update disc. Prove the burn is good, and on the right sort of CD. Then try messing about with changing stuff in Navcoder.

That sounds like they quoted you a price on the map disk, not the OS disk. Did you specifically ask for part number 01.59-0 141 891? That should be no more than £20.

That said, you might try re-burning a disk. The NavCoder mono-to-color coding is very simple. If NavCoder can see the nav computer, you are all but guaranteed to achieve success. The final step is for the nav computer to reload the color version of the operating system. There is not a lot that you can screw up, except to feed it a bad OS cd.

You don't have to put V32 on immediatiely. An older version may be useful as an interim step. Verfiy the CD perhaps after the burn.
