mk4 sat nav issues

Hi guys i've been directed here by several posts on the web concerning mk4 sat nav issues, so mine has just bricked itself (i think) during firmware upgrade, i bought the unit used and was fully working with a custon version 32 firmware installed, but my map disc was 2009, so i bought a new 2015 disc with speed cams etc but this needed a new firmware update the supplier called v32.6 so i followed the instructions drivers door open, key to position 1 waited for the nave to fully boot, ejected the map disc, installed the new firmware disc the messgage came on screen cd rom detectected loading firmware (or something like that) then the screen went blank and stayed blank, the nav unit power led was blinking during the whole process and when it finished ejected the disc, still with led blinking so i pressed right button and unit seemed to reboot. but i still have a blank screen.

when i start the unit i get a slight white flash across the top of the screen and i can see it's back lit, and turning right knob and selecting items works, even though i can't see anything. i have tried several times now to load a v23 firmware (each time it has a blinking led whilst reading the disc) then reboot then reinstall v32.6 (the supplier has sent me another disc which he has tested on his own unit with photo evidence) so i know i must have a good os disc. had the unit out of the car for 48 hours then put it back in this morning to no avail, currently got battery disconnected which i will reconnect in a bit and try. anything else to try or is my unit toast?

just had the unit looked at by revtronic in bradford, they say it's goosed, it's taking firmware updates but they think the main board has become corrupted so unit is officially dead

Is the unit a mk3 or a mk4???

Sorry mate, just read the title again.

It sounds like the v32.6 update disc has caused the problem.

Its possible that you ***might*** get the mk4 back, but you will need a known good working OEM v32 disc, and it coudl take a while for the mk4 to "see" the disc.

I have brought dead units back to life before, so its worth a shot.

hello ccfj1, not 100% sure what happened but the unit 'seemed' to take the update, i've tried various lower firmware versions, everytime it takes the disc, pauses for a sec then starts reading the disc with power led flashing, i'vr tried prob at least 10 times, revtronic tried it with a new drive in the unit and genuine oem firmware still with same results and say they think the board is corrupt. i have now however been in contact with a guy tobias webber in germany (electronik-idee on ebay) who says he 'can' fix the unit after telling him the methods already tried, so not sure if he removes the chip & flashes it to be honest but he syas the repair is around €100, the unit has gone to him this morning as a last ditch attempt to get it running so i will update if he manages to fix it or not

TBH 100E is not a bad price if he can get it working (cheaper than a new unit anyway).!!

Please do update, its always handy to know if/what can be fixed.
Good luck.

well just had some news on my nav unit........and it's good news it's fixed! not sure what the guy in germany did but i had several questions yesterday, which screen do i have fitted, last 6 digits of vin, do i have bm53 or 54 etc, and he's told me this ,morning it's now running with the version 32.6 firmware i sent with the unit all for the price of €100, i think he may have recoded with navcoder or similar, he said when the unit arrived it had a very dim white screen. anyway for future reference i'll post his contact details here as it maybe handy for others with similar issues.

At risk of threadjacking, my '05 X5 has a nav that says SW4-1/50. The DVD disc is dated 2005.

Can I get an education on what this means?
