![]() Hi there, I'm really impressed by your state of mine. Being -it's my opinion- so realistic on your own country is not so common...specially for french people like me. Everyone knows that french people are -just my opinion, i'm french- too proud of their country when they are outside and not enough proud of it when they are still in France... Like most of you, i have never understand why your channel news were so local. Does the US local channel think that american people are not concerned with international news ? That's really strange.

It is not that the educated don't care about the world it is that the stupid, and uneducated (creators of the term "ugly american") which unfortunately are a larger majority care more about Paris Hilton or some other dumbshit then what is going on in international affairs. It is a sad state of affairs and one that causes us a lot of trouble internationally but once again it is the whole face value mentality...people decide to hate americans based on thier own views of who we are and what we believe in....they are no better than our president at that point just ignorant, and intent on forcing thier beliefs on others....I have no time for that in my own country and internationally it should be no different....just like that typical frat boy mentality of "if a gay guy ever hit on me I would kick his ass" it is all just bullshit posturing and rehetoric that gets nowhere. I never knew wookies were french |

I would also like to add,
A large reason for our "US"centric news is also because the US is a huge country. We are isolated from Europe, Asia, etc. as such, their news seems very far removed. Granted we are also not very interested in Canada or Mexico either as their news has little effect on us. Now lets take a step back. When the Tsunami hit, it had little to nothing to do with the U.S. But we all watched, our hearts broke, etc. When the earthquake in Pakistan hit, we were there. When bombings occured in the subways and when Muslim's protested all over Europe because of the Mohammed cartoon, we tuned in. -- So, lets just say, the world news media catches our attention when big things happen. I think what we mostly miss is PSEuDO EVENTS (events that appear to look like news, but in reality are not. Example: A press conference. A debate. In reality, these peseudo events have so little effect on Americans so far away that we don't really care about the politics of France. We have our own issues much closer to home. But to say we are completely tuned out of world news is a bit of an exaggeration. Yes, we might not care who Prince Albert is kanoodling with. But we sure did care when Princess D was chased and killed by Paparazzi. So, even though I agree with some of what was said originally, there are other reasons beside's "Ugly Americans".. Lets face it, we have enough of our problems here, we don't really need to get hyper involved with your problems over there. And if we did, you would probably just tell us to mind our own business and stop meadling in the affairs of other countries. Damned if you do.. Damned if you don't.. B

B-Line-
So basically, as long as there are deaths, explosions, or natural disasters, Americans will be concerned with the rest of the world, yes? Hm. No wonder Americans are the only ones in the world who like NASCAR, and even then, ONLY when there are crashes. Which leads me to ........... http://www.xoutpost.com/lounge/25661-war-16.html

We have enough of our own problems without having to worry about yours. And, I would like to also point out, NEWS does not change based on who delivers it. The only thing that changes is the POINT OF VIEW. News is not subjective, the only thing that is subjective is the OPINION of the person delivering the news. As such, the opinion is biased and not true, objective "NEWS". The BBC and CNN and FOX and every other news orginization has an agenda. The stories they report will almost always support that agenda. Does that make it less valid?? YES, it does !!!! But until the human's are taken out of the equation and only impartial facts adorn the news, this is the truth we are stuck with. B

This is a very sad thing then: to be so large that we cannot even concern ourselves with the happenings in other countries, I think, is just the first step towards our own demise. It seems intuitive, to me, that a (relatively) advanced society like our human race of 6 BILLION+ people cannot coexist on this small blue world and hope to survive if we can so easily "not care" about the international community in which we now live.
Many astronauts, when first seeing Earth from space for the first time -- and successive times -- say that the most beautiful thing is not the Moon rising from behind the Earth; not the delicate blue atmosphere hovering gently over our planet; nor even the beautiful globe passing by underneath once every 90 minutes. They say the most beautiful sight to behold is seeing the lands about 150 miles beneath them drawn without any of those arbitrary things called "borders." If we cannot even concern ourselves with each others' NEWS, how can we even PRETEND to support an international community? And absent true international cooperation, how can we really hope to stay afloat?

LOL -
I find it funny because day in and day out people in my office turn the television in our breakroom to local news and get sucked in to the drama that our local stations try and create over EVERY event. They watch it as if their life depends on it . "Tonight at 10:00! Something somewhere could kill, injure, or otherwise offend you, stay tuned to find out how to protect yourself!" After traveling to Europe for our first time, my wife and I got a taste of how one-sided and drama driven format that most of the American news broadcasts follow. I second the support for BBC, it's much less dramatic, seems more accurate, and you can get a much better perspective on what's going on in the world than by tuning in to your local news channel .
