Warner Bros. defects to blu-ray camp

Warner Bros defected to blu-ray. Just a matter of time when Universal and Paramount also defect and that will be close to end of HD-DVD.

HD-DVD group cancels press conference

Funny will be the future of Xbox -HD-DVD partnership, a deja vu betamax, when HD-DVD ends.

At least the battle was relatively short lived.

I don't care who wins as long as someone wins quickly. I vowed not to buy a player until there was only one format. (Another Betamax owner)

Glad I didn't get an $100 HD-DVD players during the huge christmas sales. Time to save for a br player.... and ps3, new washer/dryer, new furniture, ring *cough*, suspension overhaul for goose, 335i and mods, trip to Italy, trip to Disney since Peyton has been asking, a baby........ wow, lots o things to save for. I need to win the lottery. And to think, all I wanted to say was I need to save for a blu-ray player

Something tells me that Blu-ray won't be around 20+ years like VHS tapes. The next great thing seems to be right around the corner at faster and faster rates these days...

Interesting. I bolded the text below...

"Paramount is poised to drop its support of HD DVD after Warner Brothers’ recent backing of Sony’s Blu-ray technology, in a move that will sound the death knell of HD DVD and bring the home entertainment format war to a definitive end. Paramount and DreamWorks Animation came out in support of HD DVD last summer, joining GE’s Universal Studios as the main backers of the Toshiba format. However, Paramount, which is owned by Viacom, is understood to have a clause in its contract with the HD DVD camp that would allow it to switch sides in the event of Warner Bros backing Blu-ray. Warner last week joined Walt Disney, 20th Century Fox and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in backing the Sony Blu-ray format. Paramount’s decision is likely to leave HD DVD to the same fate as Sony’s now obsolete Betamax video technology."
