When I click on the megaupload link, I receive a message saying "file is temporarily unavailable", since yesterday. Can someone re-upload the file and provide and updated link?

Thanks in advance.

I just clicked on the link found in the first post in this thread and it's still there and active for downloading.

F'ed up upgrade

I'm a newbie and just picked up an e46 coupe with a DVD Nav system. I just tried to upgrade to V29.1 by downloading the .RAR file and burning the file. I burned the .mds with ImgBurn (the .mdf file would not burn) and tried to load it in my Nav DVD reader. The screen prompted a no-disc found message and eventually ejected the CD on its own (I tried loading it again with no success). I then copied the .mdf file and saved it as a .iso file type and burned it using Nero 7, someone said they tried that in another thread and seemed to work. I loaded it in my Nav DVD reader and the screen prompted a message that it was loading the CD, the screen went black and I waited about 15 minutes hoping that it was close to finishing. I waited another 5 minutes and ejected the CD myself because I thought maybe there was something wrong with the CD. Now my screen is still blank and I can only use my radio. Any advice?

First off, dont panic. The NAV system might seem as if it shot, but its designed to always boot from a NAV OS disk if one is present in the drive. Therefore, try burning the disk again.

I recomend you try Alcohol 120% (latest version, trial download available) ... and burn at the slowest speed.

http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/

Simply insert your newly burnt disk into the drive and the NAV computer should boot from it ok.

Failing all of this, try burning a fresh disk on a different computer if you have it. It could be your CD burner.

And the .mdf and .mds are the equivalent to the iso file. Don't burn the files themselves! The .mds is equivalent to a .iso file, but you'll need to make sure it's interpreted as a Mode2 iso file. The .mdf file is a text description of what goes inside the .mds.

So, again, use Alcohol 120, and load the .mdf file. The program will know what to do with both files.

I burned the file using Alcohol 120 (I selected the .mds file but both the .mds and .mdf files were displayed as being burned so I thought everything was cool). I then booted it in my DVD reader and after like 10 minutes, nothing happened. I went to the DVD reader and it didn't sound like the cd was reading (very low inconsistent rpm sound). I thought the problem could have been that I burned the file onto a low quality disc because that's what I had available at the time. I then tried to burn the file using a high quality dvd that I had and a message prompted from Alcohol 120 that the file (.mds) was a Mode 1 type while the DVD is supposed to be burned as a Mode 2 type. I'll go buy some high quality CDs today and try to burn it again and load it at 1x speed on ImgBurn, and if it doesn't work, I'll try it again with Alcohol 120 (the min burn speed on that is 4x). Wish me luck. Thanks.

ImgBurn @ 1x is the way to go, talked a mate through this yesterday.

Once you have downloaded the file, unzip it (using winzip or similar) into a sub-dir on your pc.

Then use imgburn or similar (http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download) to burn a new
(blank) cd with the new downloaded firmware image.

eg:
install imgburn.
then run.
open v29.mds (from sub-dir).
select "mode write" from menu.
press write (cd image at bottom).

Burn at 1x speed, on good quaility cd.

When its finished writing your new firmware cd,
Goto the car open the drivers door,
Goto the dvd nav computer wait for the red led on the drive to go out,
Then press eject on drive,
Eject the map disc,
Switch ign to pos 1, leave door open.
Insert firmware disc into drive, follow instruction on nav screen.
Wait (approx 6 mins) till sat nav asks to eject cd and reboot.
Eject cd,
Confirm reboot.

Thats it.

Do not swich off ignition or close the door when doing the upgrade.

Hope this helps.

John

Anyone have the activation code for alcohol 120%? My trial period expired and I don't really want to buy the program to burn 1 disc.
