My MK4 won't read copied dvd disk!!! Help please...

I just bought a copied BMW 2008.1 high map dvd from someone in this forum...and it won't read, on the screen it says please insert a cd/dvd...I have tried many many times...just won't read, but if I put my OEM 2003 dvd map in, it read perfectly...why is this?

BTW: I have the MK4 V31 version.

is this the copied dvd problem or my lens problem?

thanks!
Mike

That is a common issue with the MKIV. As a general rule, the MKIV hates reading from copies. Some folks have not had problems, but on the other hand, many folks have problems with copies. You are probably in the "problem" category.

Search the forum, and you will find other similar posts. I used to try to use a backup in mine, but it kept crashing the nav computer, so I gave up and went back to the original DVD. I have not had a crash since. (I tried burning with different media, different copy programs, and different speeds and never found a working combination for mine.)

Try burning at the slowest possible speed and with the best quality media, Verbatim usually work. If that does not work, try the highest speed! I have two PC's that have different DVD burners, using the same Verbatim media one will only create usable disks when burnt at 16x, the other only at 2x - go figure!

Also try using a different type of media, if the one you have is a DVD-R then try a DVD+R, it may work, like brian says it's a bit hit an miss.

Follow Richards advice and make an image (with imgburn, it's free) and then burn a new one on a quailiy DVD at a slow speed. I burn my tdk's at x4 speed (the slowest rated for the disc) and my Verbatim DVD-RW's at x2 speed and have no problems.

+1!!

Problem is the copy you bought is writed at more than allowed. You simply can backup this copy in a new one... but this time burn it at 1x or 2x speed.

By the way... you can get now the 2008-2 version

Regards,
Manu.

Hi,

For USA, you will have to wait for 2008-2 ( I guess in a couple of months you'll have it available).

For EU, ... easily @ http://www.navteq.com/buymaps/mapupdates/

Regards,
Manu.
