I think I have decided to go with a deck with the features from the first picture - (gazebo, hot tub, firepit and grill/bar areas) - with the colonial New England design from the second picture.
I have some contractors coming over the house next week for some estimates. Getting excited... |

These are some great suggestions! I really like the direction you're taking. You may want to encorporate a small border or dedicated area of patio, depending on use. (kids, bbq, etc).
Also, your plan will likely require a railing only if the drop is 18+" at the edge. If you'd like a more open feel, you can go with full wrap-around stairs or have a long step or two down from the house to deck level to bring the deck height down below 18". Tends to tie the space more into its surroundings, and no blocked views when sitting, etc. Just a thought. Have fun! |
