If its a 2008 model than you should have "year one of one" on start button.
Any performance mods on the cards?

Yes, mine does have a "Year One of the One" start button. Also expecting the "Year One of the One" book that is due to arrive in a few weeks.

And no, no performance mods in the plans. It's already overpowered as it is

Interesting, thanks. The 1 series looks so small but I guess my E30 was too

Nice ride! It's a cop magnet, though. I've been pulled over 3 times since I picked mine up on May 29th. It's absolute hell trying to be "good" during the break-in period! If you haven't yet, check out 1addicts.com. There's a wealth of information to be had! Let the modding begin!!!

Since the 135 looks so nice, and is similar in size to the 3 series, what are everyone's thoughts regarding the potential of the 1 series to cannibalize sales from the 3?

I have seen a lot of 1 series around the various universities here in Boston, more than new 3 series - seems like mommy and daddy are cannibalizing the 3 sales for their precious ones.

I think that the 1 series has its own niche, as it appeals to a certain demographic. Yes, there will be a LOT of young folks out there driving the 1, mostly because it's the least expensive BMW in the lineup....stripped, of course, it IS a BMW, is not a 4 door, has the same engine, etc. as the 3 series and weighs less, and they can't afford or don't want an M3. Similarly, there are those like myself, who wanted a cute, (yes, I said, "Cute!"), fast, summer car which is fun to drive, and of course there are the older folks/empty nesters who don't need 4 doors, have had the Porches and Lotuses, and now need something a little different, but fun.

That having been said, I think it'll be more likely to be competition for the Mini Cooper in the size and fun factors....unless you also consider gas prices, which then would put the Mini waaaay ahead.

The rear-end lights resemble those on the E46, the previous 3-series.
