Is that a question or a statement.

Because I like to drive at speed...

In CT, I find that Ka band is mostly used. On my colorized V1, that is blue. So when I see that blue light, I know that there's bogeys up ahead (or behind depending on the arrows).

I have seen very little use of laser in New England (but it might be that I'm not traveling far enough from home).

In CT state police use mostly laser (LTI system) while local cops use K and Ka band radar.

Laser Technology - Traffic Safety

LTI Ultralyte - Guys of LIDAR

LTI TruSpeed - Guys of LIDAR

Get a Blinder M27 or M47 to protect yourself from the laser.

Get the V1, hardwire it into your X. Case closed. Next!

And 1. You'll have a relatively outdated radar detector that has now been surpassed by a couple of others. and 2. You'll get nailed by laser every time.

The beauty of the V1 is that updates are always available and you can check their site as often as you like to see if a new one has been released. Since the magnesium case never changes, you never have to upgrade to a new model. Did you know that? That's why the housing of the V1 hasn't changed in 15 years. Pretty smart.

Oh, and I've never been nailed by laser in the 4 years I've had my V1 and I drive fast -- very fast. And yeah, I drive through CT all the time. I have family that lives up there.

As I stated earlier, get the V1. I've had the Escorts and still nothing compares to the V1. Case closed!

Wow, a V1 Zombie on xoutpost

Yes, the V1 remains my strong preference too after trying Escorts and one or two others...

LOL! Well, after getting 2 tickets for speeding with the Escorts in my E39 many years ago, I realized I had to move to the V1. At the recent Exotics Rally Turkey Run (180+ Exotics), I think every single attendee had the V1 in their baby. I don't recall seeing any other brand. I think that says something too.

I am aware of all that. I'm also aware that other detectors beat it in range and sensitivity tests. The magnesium case isn't so great anymore since other units have magnesium cases that shield far better. The V1 can be detected with a radar detector detector. Some others cannot which makes them ideal in states where detectors are illegal. Finally other detectors can also be upgraded, and in fact some have GPS upgradeable capabilities that the V1 just doesn't have.

Driving 4 years without getting nailed means nothing. I've driven 20 years without a detector and haven't been nailed. It's called luck.

My points are simple. The V1 was a great detector. There are now better ones on the market. All radar detectors suck at 'detecting' laser since essentially they tell you that you just got hit and that's why you need a laser jammer in addition to the radar detector.
