Thumbs up My X5 Hits 13 Years...

In a couple days. Got it new back on 9-15-2001...
Still runs very well, especially for a car going into its 14th year, and we still enjoy driving it.

Has 96k+ miles on it, and I don't have any intention of replacing it in the near future.

The list of repairs other than maintenance stuff is fairly short and barely a handful, and if something goes boom! any time soon, I would get it repaired rather than toss it.

I need to do the 2nd replacement batt swap out soon, (new one is sitting in my garage on the Batt Tender), and it needs brakes/rotors and probably thrust arms, MT fluid, trans case fluid, brake fluid, and an oil change.

A cooling system overhaul is looming, also.. How much of this I will feel like doing myself is based strictly on my very busy Retired Bum schedule, and my vigor feel on any given day.

The fan blower motor is chirping on higher speeds, but after reading the R&R for that lil'beauty I will let it die first, but hopefully that will not be soon.

It is the 2nd or 3rd best car I have ever owned in 50+ years of cars...
Here is to another year, or more.
Good Luck, mD

Congrats MD!

But wait, I thought no BMW should ever be owned out of warranty

Glad you could prove that wrong.

Wow! Less than 7.5k well maintained miles per year. 6 cylinder model with manual trans is about as good as it gets with regards to fun and reliability. At this point it really wouldn't be worth selling. Here's to many more years and miles.

Looks great MD. Great to hear about how a well-cared-for vehicle just keeps going.

Thank you, Gang!

We have 3 cars, and do about ~20k miles per year total, with another ~3k miles on the Scoots. Retired Bumdom doesn't necessitate driving for work/commute, etc. Thus, the lower miles on each car.

The X has 96k miles, '02 VetteVert has ~57k miles, (13,000 of that in a cross country trip), and the CEO's '10 Hyundai Tuck has 40,000 miles which is our DD.

Thanks for looking, and the comments.
BR, mD

MBFAM: Keep it up. Amid all the troubles people complain about it's a good thing
to see some positive news about the classic X.

Happy anniversary to the X5 and many more to come.

Is the fan motor a common failure as I don't see many posts on it? My fan has been chirping on low for the past 2 or 3 years - It hasn't died yet...fingers crossed.
