Just My Ride - UK X5 3.0d

A few people have asked for pics so here they are. This is my 2003 X5 3.0d, UK Spec, GPS, Computer, Comms Pack, Memory Seats, Traffic Master, etc.. etc..

I fitted my own Sony DVD player and rear headrest screens and also fitted an FM transmitter so that audi can be played via the FM system. I have the option of fitting the other DVD player ( I bought two kits to do this ) so that each screen can play independent movies. Also the chorme grill was just a kit from ebay, very effective tho.

Not much else to say other than I love this car, it`s my first X5 and probably not my last.

Was it difficult to fit the screens?

Nice interior, apart from the steering wheel, just like my 2005.
Well done.

No, surprisingly enough it wasnt. I measured loads of times, then marked out holes SMALLER than I needed, then did the cut (point of no return). Then I used some of the removed foam as padding at the edges of the screens to make them fit better. Finally I glued and screwed (small screws in to plastic frame) the mounts and finished the edges off.

Luckily I had black hold alls where the kids put their toys so the screen wires are pretty well hidden behind them.

I quite like the wheel, it`s the sports version I`m told. I`ve seen the square version but I dont like. unless of course youre on about the wheel being at the right :-)

Having a left hand drive X and being British it still seems weird seeing that wheel on the wrong (right) side of this car. Nice X love what you did with the Vid system!

I will be enjoying the English roads in mid October after my X arrives in Europe so it will be interesting being again on the right side of the road in a left hand drive car, although if you are in a left hand drive country you are on the "right" side of the road. Figure that one out.

If you see a California licenced X5 Highland Green whizzing past give me a wave!!!!

Very nice Job, very well done. How did you feel when you start cutting into the headrest? You had to be very confident that the screens would fit well. Lovely car of yours. You guys over there are lucky. You can drive diesel models X5 with a such great MPG.

I had a beer before I did the cut, to calm the nerves. Actually I had a bit of experience with my Audi that I had for 2 years before I bought the X5. I made a better job of this one too.

Petrols over here fetch less money for the obvious reason. Our fuel prices are very high over here, to fill the X5 with diesel costs £70 per tank and last me about a week.

As I explained, I ran the screen cables beneath those seat tidies that the kids put their toys in. When they get to the ground, I`ve concealed them under the seats and then they go straight in to the plastic floor trim and up past the rear seats and straight in to the boot, not visible at all. That`s another reason why I mounted the DVD player in the side compartment, that`s where the wires pop out.
