My new x5 is coming with a Casette Deck ? What!

This is a bad joke! The m3 has the nav with a single cd behind it but the x5 doesn't ?

The x5's:

BMW On-Board Navigation System with Cassette Player
On-board DVD-based navigation system, including 8-function on-board computer (not available with in-dash CD player; requires Premium Package)

The m3's

BMW On-Board Navigation System
On-board navigation system (available with in-dash CD player)

As wonderful as BMW's are, with regard to performance and handling, their electronics leave much to be desired.

BMW is far behind in electronics compared to Acura, Infiniti and Lexus to name a few.

They mentioned something about space. However one of the members here said that there is just the same amount of space back there.

I can only assume that BMW feels like the younger segments of the population who own lots of CD's buy the M3 and old stodgy guys with lots of disco cassettes buy the X5. Just kidding. Why they still contract to have units made with a cassette is beyond me. Probably the German equivalent of some kind of sweetheart contact deal with the supplier of the decks who is a long time BMW family friend or relative.

The german auto makers are little slow when it comes to electronics. I have a in-dash 6 disc changer which plays MP3s burnt on DVD+R discs with tags, DVD audio, dts and 5.1 channel surround sound in my CEOs new Acura RL which I can control with my voice commands. But it does not drive like my 4.8. trade-offs
