Rear view mirrors - mind of their own

At times when I unlock the car the passenger side rear view mirror moves into the reversing position and does not restore itself when I drive off. Any ideas on this ?

Could it be that the mirror is mistakenly programmed to that position?? I would set the mirrors where you want them and re-program both the seat memory positions and the key to the new position. Try that for a day or two. If it still screws up and loses it's setting then you may need a new switch module in the driver's door.

This happens to me on occasion as well. Not sure of the cause but if I hit my seat memory button on the side of my seat it goes back to normal.

It happened to our X just after we got it. Dealer had to reprogram the "Seat Memory" modules. That's when we lost the automatic lift/retract of the steering wheel as the dealer would not put it back into the program. BMWNA instructions was all he would tell us!
