For the love of god, how to remove rear sunshade?

I have to remove the rear door panel, and just cannot release
the door panel from the bar which holds the vertical sunshade. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. I did a search, but
could not find any info.

thank you in advance.
Forrest

Rear Window Regulator Replacement & Sunshade Removal

For the most part you can follow the article used to describe the front window regulator as seen here:

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/e...nt-bmw-x5.html

However, there are some significant differences they may need to be pointed out.

I attached a PDF of my instructions with pictures. Here is the text from that PDF:

1) There is a 3rd screw that is not mentioned in the guide. It is the screw located left of the door handle. Once you remove the wood grain from the trim from door you will see the screw that needs to be removed.

2) As indicated in article above, the sunshade must be removed in order to continue the disassembly of the door panel. Use a long thin screwdriver to detach the clip that holds the sunshade to the top of the doorframe.

3) Once you have removed the sunshade, you must remove the screw that holds the bottom sunshade clip to the doorframe.

4) Now that you have done the hard part, carefully start popping the plastic clips that hold the door panel in place. Start from the bottom and work your way to the top. When you get to the top, again you will be confronted with the sunshade for the larger window. You’ll need to pull up the sunshade to disconnect the clips that hold it to the frame. This is how I did it….not sure if this is a good method.. but it worked for me. With the window down, use both hands to grasp the left edge of the sunshade and pull up with force. If you used enough force, you will dislodge the left connectors for the sunshade and you will feel the door panel loosening up. Continue to pull up on the shade working your way from the left to right. Now, the door panel should be disconnected.

5) Disconnect the door handle cable and the other wires before totally removing the door panel. Don’t forget the little wire that connects to the light on the bottom of the panel.

6) Now follow the guide above for removing the acoustic material held in place by the tar-like substance.

7) One obvious but none the less important trick in removing the regulator is to remove the screw and bolt which hold the regulator lift arm to the window.

Using the original article, you will be able to complete the rest. Hope this helps. I tool picture of all of these but they are too large to upload. If you need pictures, send me a message

I don't care that this thread is 6+ years old, you are the man. I have been looking for this info info for 2 hours and everyone keeps linking back to that ambiguous instruction set you pointed out.

THANK YOU!!!

I love you guys! This thread is awesome!! That damn window shade is the worst thing on the planet when you don't know how to remove it. And it was actually pretty frustrating even when I knew what to do.
