Question OBD2 scan tool,,,help!

can some one giveme a litlle advice,is there a obd2 emission scan tool that scans the engine and emission?? like conect your cable to the car to the obd plug and the other part to the home computer (serial port)?? there is a software for european cars called "" vag-com"" did anyone try this?,,
for 2001 x5,3.0l v6 thanks

I use an Actron CP9135 (http://motors.search.ebay.com/search...trypage=search)

It doesn't require a connection to a computer, it's a stand-alone, self-contained unit

BTW, you don't have a V6, you have an I6

sorry,i6 my mistake,, thanks for the reply,,
does it say every thing ,,i have the "" service engine soon""light i think is something with the emission,, anyway thanks for the info

That unit will give you the fault codes and will also allow you to reset them.

You can also go to a Pep Boys and they'll read the codes for you for free. They won't reset them, however, unless they do the recommended repairs.

thanks, i have a code digital code reader,only for check engine light,, so the pepboys will check for free if the code comes from the emission part?,,my reader does not read emission!,,thanks

pepboys, autozone, etc will all read for free. but all you will get is the obd2 code and a brief description. it could be for powertrain, electronic, emissions, etc... at the very least you will have the code and we can give you more details here.

Vagcom units are for vw and audi

I use an innova 3110 because it also works with CAN systems you can usually buy them for 150 with free shipping on ebay...works great on all of my obed 2 and can interface vehicles

yap,i did some research and so that vag-com works only for vw and audi,,it was good if worked on bmw ,cheap to buy you can get the software for free and cables to connect to pc 20$,,
