I soaked the letters with hot water first, then used fishing line to "cut" the adhesive. With some Goo-Gone, fingernails and credit card love the mounting tape comes right off. Make sure to cover the spot back up with some wax when your done tho, Goo Gone strips it right off.

all good ideas...
please note: as wnharris stated, 1) heat= more glue removal when using the string/fishing line. use a hair dryer on high or preferably a heat gun. 2) best thing to remove the adhesive is 3m adhesive remover-- comes in handy for all sorts of stains (ESPECIALLY TREE SAP). be aware, it removes the wax as well so you'll have to rewax. the 3m adhesive remover is available at any auto parts store as well as major chain (walmart, etc) stores.... its about $3-5/container... i think goo gone is an alternative but 3m is what the autobody shops and dealerships use. i don't know whats in goo gone... with the above two methods, no 'scraping', etc., required. |

Forgive me for this brief hijacking, but would these methods probably work to remove the black molding on the sides of the X as well? I want to paint mine TiAg to match the X...Scared as hell though!!
