Looking for new car?

My mom is looking to purchase a new cae, because we are getting rid of her Porsche C4S. As bad as it sounds I want her to get a Range Rover, instead of buying our family another X5. Do any of you have opinions for or against the Range Rover?

Why not the RRS? I think the Range Rover is fugly, and wayyy too much plastic for 80g's...Plus the reliability factor - or lack thereof - and it seems like a waste of money..

The RRS however, has wayyy too much plastic, handles like a brick, and has the worst resale value...But to look at it makes it all worth it...

Which Range Rover. The sport or the real full on Range Rover?

You do realize, that the Range Rover and the X5 (E53) are step-cousins. Many of the underlying electronics (and on earlier years engines) are straight out of BMW's part's bin. Think of it as a loaded X5.

However, for the 07' model year, Ford has managed to bastardize the Range Rover, stripping it of BMW nav and much of its BMW components to save costs.

My aunt has a 04' Range Rover - a car which resembles very closely to the X5 you have listed in your profile. First thing, that strikes you is the feather light steering. The BMW 4.4i growl is still there and glorious if you rev the engine nice and hard. The navigation of the MKIII is unacceptable in an $80,000 car sold in 2004. The ride is soft, yet still feels secure and some feeling of the road - not total seclusion like a lexus. The thing that strikes you the most about driving a range rover is the image the car portrays. Make you feel like British royalty .

I would look at the Mercedes ML. They are new and they look half decent. You will have good resale value too because they are so new.

P.S. Don't get a Range Rover, its a big bucket of shit.

When looking around for a new car when my RR went bad. How about engine in 90000miles (lucky they usually go at 60000), 2 gear boxes, air suspension, front drive (cost a fortune), door locks, air con to list just a few problems I looked at an ML thought it went ok and it was a decent deal a friend of mine who worked for Mercedes in the UK said "don't get one of them as it will be in the garage all the time". The quality is supposed to be rubbish even the MD said they had seemed to have reduced the quality too far in a effort to increase profits.

Looked at the lexus 400rx and bought an X5.

Go for the Sport if you're thinking of a Range Rover. At least then you can get the supercharged version and put some nice packages on it, if your mom is in to that sort of thing. Strut does a great job on the Sport. I agree with the above statements, the full size is a piece of junk.
