Thumbs down Ugh! Rear Window Regulator Quit...Need to Tape Window!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, so my 3rd window regulator decided to break this morning when my window was completely down. So now I need to plastic and tape my window.

What is the best tape to use that won't leave any residue?

Sorry to hear about your window, my front passenger side window did the same thing a couple weeks ago. Guess if it had to happen I'd rather have it happen during the summer as I just drove it to the BMW shop without taping the window. $425.00 later I was back on the road....

I'm doing the fix myself. Part only costs $100.00.

3M Painters tape

Pick up a roll of this from Home Depot:

3M Scotch Safe Release Painters' Tape
3M Scotch Blue Painters Tape is a type of masking tape that removes cleanly without adhesive transfer or surface damage for up to 14 days - even when exposed to direct sunlight. It is a medium adhesion masking tape that is ideal for painted walls and trim, woodwork, glass and metal (not for use on lacquer or faux finishes). Use Painters' Tape to mask off areas while applying paint, varnish, stain, and many other finishes. Flexible crepe backing allows for exceptional conformability to semi-smooth surfaces.

If you've ever used cheap masking tape on a project and left it for several days or weeks or months, and then tried to remove the dried on adhesive, you'll really appreciate this tape. Professionals use 3M tapes for their high quality and consistency from roll to roll. Also known as Long-Mask or Blue Tape. Painters' Tape is available in 4 sizes, 3/4", 1", 1 1/2", and 2" wide.

Tijan just replaced the same exact regulator in his X5 a few weeks ago. I will be assisting him with the replacement of mine.

All you need to tape is the window, and then the rest on the black plastic avove the window seal. That way you dont have to worry about the door paint.

Finally got mine fixed yesterday. $50 cpo deductible.
