Smile K&N Air Filter

Hi Everyone,
I am thinking about getting a K & N Air Filter for my 4.4 X5 and I wondered if anyone has it, and if they notice any difference?

Pass on this. I tried it and see absolutely no difference what so ever.

K&N Filter

I just installed one less than a week ago and haven't seen any difference. In fact I'm seeing less efficiency.

In hindsight I should have bought the "disposable" Fram I pick up at the WalMart and replace about every two months. In fact, I'll probably go back to the Fram to see if there's any noticeable difference.

Meanwhile, I'm relatively new to the car, but I've become obsessed. Hence I'm taking baby steps and trying to make inexpensive "performance" upgrades.

In a bimmer forum expense is all relative, but I can say an inexpensive "performance" upgrade is an oxymoron

I have to believe that BMW engineers choose the best intake and filter arrangement possible considering performance and engine life. If it was possible to wring a few more horsepower from an engine without sacrificing something else they would have done it already.

Thumbs up Thanks for your help

I was trying to decide if I was going to replace my filter with a different type because the dealer charges around $30 everytime I need a new filter.

I have a 2001 4.4 and a 2007 3.0

Good link, X5 in AK, thanks for this. I read this report some time ago, but had misplaced the link. Like the author, I am amazed that people buy into the marketing hype for 'low restriction' oiled foam filters. They are supposed to be filters, and any restriction is a byproduct of them filtering. If you want less restriction you should just take the filter out entirely, and run it until you need a new engine.
