solution to my sluggish 3.0d sport

Have spent a couple of days searching this site and thanks for everyones help, my 3.0d x5 was running at snails pace, took it to one guy this moring and he hooked it up to diags and the actual turbo output was lower than the nominal and he told me that the turbo had a problem and that i have to leave the car with him for an unspecified amount of time and he would not tell me how it would cost to repair either. I promptly left his garage, went to another garage and the guy took it for a spin and said he wanted to have a quick look under the bonnet, in one second he spotted the issue and I was back up to full power again. So please find attached a pic with the missing hose from what looks like some kink of vacum unit, he simply plugged it back in and the car was fine again, so beware of thieving mechanics.ta

I know this is an OLD post, but it solved my problem!! So very happy camper.

The nozzle highlighted above was actually broken in my car, and as the part I ordered will take about 3 weeks to arrive, I have bypassed the reservoir and simply cross-connected the hoses together.

The car runs like a rocket now!!

That is the vacuum tank that connects to the wastegate on the turbo.
If it is not hooked up, then the turbo won't spool up as you accelerate.

I have noticed that although performance is improved while moving, it it still sluggish when taking off from a stop, especially up-hill.
Hope replacing the reservoir will fix this (right now the pipes are connected directly without the reservoir).

Will keep you posted.

ahhh I am back with the same issue so many years on but this time piping is connected, so need to check full length of those tubes tomorrow, in the meantime how do i test that vacum accumulator? remove hoses, block one end blow air in it from the other whilst spraying with soapy solution and seeing if it leaks or is cracked?

Heartwarming to see that after 14 years you're still around and with the same vehicle!
Not many members have diesel here, definitely very rare in US and Canada
