Finally got the X pipe in today... with pics

It was a great decision, the sound rocks. 2.25" x pipe from Jegs around $80 and installed by my buddy Mark.

When it's cold it has a bit of a bark under more than 25% throttle and a just a bit when you turn the key - once it's warmed up it loses the bark and is a bit more mellow. Nearly normal sound at idle, maybe 1%-2% louder at most - once you open it up a bit you can really hear the soulful sound from the 4.8. Probably about another 10%-15% percent increase in db when opened up. This was exactly what I wanted.

I'll try to get some video/sound up but here are some pics for now. Thanks to all for the previous suggestions and you were right, this is a must do mod.

Stock before

Cut from rear view

Cut from front (actually upside down)

Tack welded

Ready to go

Fits great

Didn't need to use a hanger but added it after this pic anyway

I've had a few PMs asking for the link to the Jegs page for the X pipe - here it is

http://www.jegs.com/i/Magnaflow/642/10790/10002/-1

Magnaflow #642-10790
Stamped Y-Pipe and Tru-X Pipe transitions are great for single/dual, dual/dual and balance tube applications. MagnaFlow's stainless steel Tru-X crossover pipe represents a significant leap forward in technology over traditional H-pipes. The more gentle radius allows for better exhaust gas scavenging, noise cancellation and better balance between cylinder banks. The result is a significant increase in power and torque but a reduction in db sound levels... the best of both worlds.
