Difference between Reg Drive and on S
Sorry guys when I bought the X5, it didnt come with a manual.
What really is the difference between the gears? |
Drive will simply shift for you around 2800-3000 to make shifts smooth or optimize power. "Sport" will let you select the shift point, so you can take it up to 4000-5000 range.

Like Wagner said higher revs achievable with S selected, plus you can drive your X like a manual as well with another tap to the left. S mode: Ideal for thumping it on an freeway entry ramp which hopefully leads you to a mountain/hill with twistys up or down where you can get those cobwebs outta the engine, if you know what I mean. Maybe practise and familiarise yourself first with S and manual mode with light or no traffic around you before you put on your Andretti suit. Enjoy :driver::woot: :bmw:  |
Ooo sweet sounds fun. Ive noticed the difference when I put it on S mode but I didnt exactly know what happens.
Does putting the X5 on S mode consume more gas? |

Generally yes. If you're revving the motor higher between gears then of course you're consuming more juice.
Also when in sport mode and downshifting and or braking the tranny will pick up a lower gear (earlier) and hold it longer than D mode as it anticipates that you need higher revs to pull you out of the turn/corner etc. S mode driving really is a hoot  |
