You have probably seen a lot of posts about this. The BMW camera sucks at night...actually it is useless. No fixes yet from BMW.

Is there a solution by adding more lighting yourself? Perhaps changing the backup bulbs it uses for lighting or something to that effect?

If some after market manufacturer can come with a better camera, that maybe the solution till BMW resolves it.

HID Xenon lighting - a few more seconds to warm and brighten up - a few less seconds of struggling to get the perfect picture in the back at night

try youtubing a link for people that have done the reverse mod, as much it can be a good thing, with a fair bit of reflection given BMWs already not so best camera, it may NOT be worth it after all.

I don't think its the lighting. Even in board day light, the images are blury. In my R500 & MDX, the images are clear even in complete darkness. MDX had the best picture quality.

with all the complaints about the backup camera, it will be interesting to see if it's changed at all in 2k9.

Get rid of the original camera and add this to it. It's got a Carl Zeiss lens!

^ heh i have the webcam pro 9000 with that lens... it cost $90 and is crystal clear even at 800x600. I'd pay up to twice for a better quality picture on the X.. oh wait... I think we all did pay much more than that already...
