Tyre size

Hello folks,

I wonder if i can put this size of tyres on my x5 e53 2002 184 hp 3.0d
Front 255 / 50 / 19
Rear 275 / 50 / 19

I mention that my wheels are 2 size on front 9j and the rear 10 j 63 style

Please help me with this one

I don't think this would be a good idea - the difference in circumference is nearly 3% - too much and it may damage your transfer case.

You might be better with 255/50-19 fronts and 275/45-19 rears. The difference between these two sizes is about 1%.

A 255 is normally fitted to an 8.5" rim but it will probably go on a 9" ok.

Even worse - the difference is nearly 5%.

There are lots of online tire size comparison calculators - try one.

A set of tire in the OEM sizes...

255/50 R 19 Front
285/45 R 19 Rear

... give a circumference difference of only 0.3%. Much better.

Question? What tires do you have on it now? Are you on a square setup and moving to staggered? If so, note you will need to obtain a new spare as well - a 155/90 D 18 - as you won't be able to use the old 17" spare with the staggered setup.
