4.6is Multiple Misfires and Rear-end Hum

About 5k miles ago my 02 4.6is had a CE light come on. It was showing code p0307. It ran and drove fine. Though if I pinned it from a deadstop it did feel a little weird. It almost felt faster putting it down to right before the kickdown. Only from a stop though. From a 40 mph roll it was quicker than my friends 04 Audi A8L (with the 4.2l).

Anyways, fast forward 5k miles. Yesterday I punched it to merge into traffic from a stop. Accel was slower than expected. Then the CE light started flashing. Its showing p1341, p1349, p1353, and p1357. Though I have also seen. Cylinder 7 misfire (i believe p1354). It seems to idle ok, power is still ok (but is a little down). But there is an audible misfire above cruising rpms. And now above 60mph there is a mild humming sound from the backend. Kind of feels like if you have the rear windows open and the back of the car is just capturing air.

Seems confusing why so many codes popped at once. And also the rear end thing. Any ideas anyone?

Sounds like it could be CPS sensors? But when was the last time you replaced the ignition coils? Have you checked if the valve cover gaskets are leaking?

I'll be the first to say it. Ignoring CEL's will only eventually lead to more serious (and expensive) CEL's. Have the truck read with a BMW code capable reader. P codes only get you a general idea of the issue.

On cold start does the truck make any weird rattling noises? The original P code for cyl 7 miss might have been the coil and/or plug or even injector. How long have you had the vehicle? Done any maintenance on it?

Yeah why don't address the misfire first then clear the codes and see what you got. In addition if you haven't placed a good quality set of plugs in the car then now sounds like a good time. NGK platinum is a good choice.

Based on the codes that came up after CE light blinking, I would first focus on an intake vacuum leak. Cylinder 7 could be spark related but it might also be cured if an intake vacuum leak is the problem. I would assume vacuum leak is near cylinder 7 and would either do a smoke test or spray propane or carb clean in that area to see if idle changes.

Could the humming noise have always been there, that you are just listening closer? Easy to do. Or, is it directly related to the misfiring?

Came back to say it's fixed. As far as ignoring CE's, gone from 330k to 385k with my Corolla, had electrical tape over the CE when I bought it. CE light is still on (bad o2 sensor and now bad egr). It really matters on the code. But yes, it's best not to ignore them, and it wasn't my plan to do so. Sometimes though it's hard to track down something random (especially when it had a generic code early on and didn't have any symptoms of it), easier to do when the part as acting up more and in this case the first thought on where to start was the trick that fixed it.

Anyways, pulled plugs to look at them, then moved around COPs to see if that was the issue. Pulled a COP off my 540i and replaced COP #8 and fixed. Put on almost 500 miles this weekend on it, not even a pending code. Interesting that one bad COP caused numerous cylinders to misfire. Must have been shorting out or something. But just wanted to post this for others that may see this in the future.

Also the humming is gone. Came to the conclusion that it must have been from engine imbalance at higher speed because of cylinders not firing. Glad it was an easy fix, sad that I had to pull another part off my 540 So far pulled the Alternator, Waterpump Pulley, and 1x COP from it to go into the x5. Needs a clutch, plus that stuff now, lol.
