Other parts to replace while doing Engine Mounts on N62 E53?

Hey everyone,

I've been dealing with cold start vibrations and surging idles for a while. So we finally found out that there was no fuel pressure, zilch after it sits overnight. It's a wonder that it starts on the first try at all, and so we replaced the fuel filter (which has the fuel pressure regulator inside), and also coils/plugs as they were about due, and one of those two solved the surging idle.

Shop found that mounts were on their way out, and that's whats probably causing the vibration.

I wanted to ask if anyone's done these before, and if so what else is easily replaceable when doing these? I also plan on doing transmission mount, and rear subframe mounts/bushings as well, so if there's any other parts I should be replacing while its apart, I'd love to know.

Cheers!

Hi SigBoi,
I would recommend you to replace lavers and cv joints along with the bushings, i replaced them all rear and front after the car started vibrating:ratling when driving and rotating, cost quite the bucks but the result were great.

Have a good day/night!
Cheers!

if you are going to the expense of replacing motor mounts, definitely replace the gasket in the alternator mounting bracket. It's a $7 part, but when it fails (as mine did recently) it takes 8-10 hours of labor removing everything (including the subframe) just to get to the bracket.

My N62 has 134K miles and it was leaking like a sieve. After replacing it....no more leaks. I did all the work myself.

Did you by happen to do a write up for the alternator bracket gasket? I am going to tackle it next summer ( mine has been slowly leaking since I purchased the vehicle 5 years ago )

I followed the steps here:
BMW - The Infamous Alternator Bracket Oil Leak on the E65 BMW 7-Series - Pelican Parts Technical Article

it is very much a labor intensive job, and not for the faint of heart. You need all the tools, and a lift makes it much easier (I have a 2 post lift in my garage)

Just rolled past 113k, can't believe the mounts are going so soon. My e46 mounts didn't go until 180k.

If they are like the e46... they are hydraulic mounts. I have seen the e46's fail in the early 100's miles as well. Plus the N62 weighs a decent amount more and has a lot more torque than an M54. So even though the mounts are bigger, I'm sure they see more stress than those on the e46.

I need to do mine as well... 114k miles. But I've been able to feel vibration from them under 100k miles. I think these trucks are just hard on mounts.
