Well I've now experienced all the door handle/lock issues due to cold weather.
Yesterday, it was nice and sunny and even though forecast said snow, I said no way the skies were clear and sunny. So I washed my car, then all of sudden as soon as I was done, a snow storm passes by and drops below freezing. Well now my door lock actuator is frozen, was able to open it but couldn't close it. Got in the car, locked with the button and now I couldn't get out lol.

So this got me thinking, is this just a complete design flaw or is something else worn (like a door seal or weatherstripping) causing water to even form there?
If it was a design flaw I'm sure back in the day when e53 was still produced and sold wasn't it happening then? No tsb or revision was done? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Long time issue without any real engineering retro solution other than "Replace as Required"

I used Gummi Pflege Stift Rubber Care on my 323i back when I daily drove it and it prevented two things. It stopped the side windows from sticking to the rubber and causing the window regulator to grenade when it broke free and it stopped the doors from freezing shut.
Awesome stuff. I haven't used it on the x5's but I haven't had them in super cold and moisture either. The stuff worked great on my 323i so I imagine it would solve the doors freezing shut problem you all are running into. This is the stuff https://amzn.to/2SiXiJ7

Crowx- it's not the seals, it's the hardware.
It's quite simple. The X is like any human being. Just don't let it go to sleep wet and cold ;-) |

Please tell me more of this redesign? Part number?
Also I was talking more of the actuator freezing, I can understand and tolerate frozen handle but not the actuator that prevents the door from staying shut after. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
