Keeping the wheels clean... or?

Hi guys,
I know this question will raise a different response from east and west of the big pond but I'm interested in all opinions. I sit somewhere in the middle of the bling and ultra-subtle mod fence - but i do luv a modded x5

After lots of thought and deliberation between 20"or 22", I went for style 168 replicas in 20" staggered (285/35/20 front and 315/35/20 rear) - and after a year I would still choose the same setup.

I Just found a carbunkle on one of the 315s after just 4000 miles and small as it is, the tyre has to go - ouch! £200 - but no arguments. Anyway, the wheel has to come off so I had this idea that since I was there (you know how these ideas start)...

Anyway, here's the car so far ;

Every time I clean the wheels (3 days and they get dirty) - I wish there was a way of keeping the wheels and the tailpipe trips clean for longer.

For the tailpipes I give up. Remus Quad Stainless steel + Diesel = lots of - work . No way round that But they look nice when shiney...)

But for the wheels, I have noticed that the actually look fat in that kinda grey coated with brake-dust look, so was wondering what you guys think of my idea to have them shadow-line coated as per E39 M5 wheels.

I've seen these wheels in black - but - even with my X in Carbon Black it's not for me... dunno why - but nah!

but shadowline - hmmm maybe.... Apparantly Its just a different base primer - a little bit more expensive per wheel (refrb).

Waste of money? I reckon it might look ok with a black car - what do you reckon lads?

Any thoughts or pics guys? Thanks.

Kev

personally, with the silver skid plate, grille and running boards and shiney exhaust, I like them the way they are now. Kinda dressy.

If you were to paint the rims gunmetal/black/grey then i would change up the grill and tail pipes to be black as well

Kev,
I found some 168's powder coated in a finish that I think you are referring to. They were on this thread: http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...-my-4-8is.html

BTW that's one very nice looking ride you got there.

have you tried using wheel wax or a similar product? supposedly they will help keep the brake dust away a bit longer, or just make it easier to just hose off.
