Well I'm surprised I am the first to chime in on this as it seems to be a common problem. Certainly good news and I eagerly anticipate the notice being sent out. That airbag light on the dash drives me nuts!!

They extended the warranty in canada, not a recall. If thats your fault code, youre in luck.

I don't think the recall is for airbag, but for the mats that are placed over the carpets.

As stated in the recall:

"The front passenger seat occupant detection mat that determines if and how the passenger frontal air bag should deploy in a crash may fatigue and develop cracks which could lead to a system failure."

I believe this is part of the front seat cushion.......

I tried my last seven digits of my VIN on the BMW USA website for my 06 X5 but it still indicates there are no open recalls. I have this bleeping problem with my passenger seat occupancy sensor.

You have to read the recall notice.
REMEDY:

"BMW will notify owners with an interim notification letter in January 2014 since parts are not currently available. When parts are available, anticipated to be in March 2014, BMW will send a second letter and dealers will repair the occupant detection mat to eliminate the possibility that it may crack, free of charge."

Seat mat recall

So clear things up from the posts above the recall is for the passenger seat occupancy sensor mat. I received a letter in January telling me about the recall. In October I was told the parts were available and brought my X5 in for the service. About a week after having he may replaced I noticed the Orange light on the ceiling was illuminated "passenger airbag OFF" while sitting in the passenger seat with my seat belt fastened. This is weird this light was never in before. So I took it back to BMW Henderson here in Las Vegas and was told the following after a day and a half of troubleshooting. " your mat has been replaced but the software sent to support the new seat mat doesn't work. We are sorry but your cars passenger airbag will not deploy in a crash. We are hoping to have an update from BMW in the next 6-8 weeks". Ok so is it just me or is there Sowmthine totally wrong with handing my car back to me in a worse state from how I brought it in? And a safety issue no less? I called BMW USAband the service line was apologetic but didn't offer a solution. Where do I go now?
