I made the tragic mistake of removing both upper control arms from the rear of my X5 to get to the spring. I should have researched better. Anyone know a trick to getting the wheel to straighten enough to get the front ball joint to line up?

It rained cats and dogs here over the past several days thanks to the first big storm of the hurricane season. It’s way too early for this crap - Late July is usually when we start seeing named storms.

At any rate, I’ve go water in both floorboards in the back. After some investigation I’m reasonably sure enough that I’ve got leaky vapor barriers. The rears have never been changed, despite my having been in the doors many, many times over the past 10 years.

Two new barriers on order, along with 4 new plugs for the bottoms of the doors. These plastic plugs look very degraded in my x5. I’m not sure if they have anything to do with it, but just in case I figure I’ll swap in new ones.

I’m assuming the doors will leak normally to some extent in heavy rain, but should drain to the outside rather than into the car if the barriers are compromised?

Hello, I hope all is well with you guys. I've been busy with life and missed this forum

To start, I have had my ECU/DME replaced and reprogrammed in the past, which I've heard could be a cause of this issue.

I've had a steering angle sensor problem for a while now, but regardless, I wanted to fix it. Before, the live data showed -1440 for the steering angle (assuming this meant it could not read it). Tonight I went to recalibrate my steering angle sensor in hopes of fixing the problem.

When I opened the menu, the live steering angle data showed the correct data when steering. I recalibrated the steering angle sensor, and the code went away for a few seconds, then I started steering left and right hard to see if it would come back (it came back).

My question now is, where should I start looking now? I want to diagnose this problem and fix it myself. From the looks of it, to my noob brain, the steering angle sensor is fine and can be read. however im still getting these error codes

LWS 04 Slider fault (adjustment operation)
DCS/DXC: 5EB1 Present, Steering angle sensor supply
5DEB not present (not present???) insignificant clear fault memory.

I am genuinely stuck and confused, im considering removing the sensor itself and checking it out, I would rather not. But I'm not sure what options I have left.

Thanks for any help you guys offer!

The lenses of my headlight's are seriously hazed and cracked (beyond repairable) so I'm looking for replacements. I'd rather not go for just the lens replacement even thought I have understood it's possible even for facelift lights. Therefore I'm looking for used lights in good condition. Now I'm a bit confused about the different light variants and which one I should pick.

-The car is 09/23 (very early facelift)
-EU spec
-Facelift headlights
-Factory Xenons S522
-White direction indicator lights S785 (this most likely doesn't matter?)

There are more than enough options when looking online but it's sometimes difficult to compare the pictures and descriptions are sometimes pretty much non-existing. Is there a way to recognize halogen lights from xenons by comparing the housing? A ballast is an obvious one but sometimes they are not included. Not sure about the differences in US and EU cars, but are there any different variants for facelift xenon headlights or is it even possible to go wrong if I buy any facelift lights with xenons?

I attached pictures of two lights with annotations, am I correct with the assumptions of which one is halogen and which is xenon?

Also see the pictures with a red circle, in the left one there is a connector protruding from inside of the housing and in the right picture it looks like it's plugged and there is no opening in the housing at all. Anyone know what that connector is for?

I'd prefer not to take the current lights off the car before having the new ones because of the bumper removal so it's difficult to fully compare the lights.

I was also looking for new aftermarket options which I could get for around 500 euros but from my understanding they are most likely trash compared to the used OEM option?

I put my new code reader to use today, and am puzzled- I should preface this by stating that I am a dinosaur, much happier working on anything made in the '70's or older...

I recently left my X5 with a shop while away for an extended time. I had asked for the expansion tank to be replaced (preventive maintenance) and for new plugs, in addition to some unrelated work. While there, they replaced upper and lower radiator hoses. The shop had authorization to thoroughly evaluate and we would discuss any other needs- nothing related here was found. I will note there was an occasional misfire when it went to the shop.

Now the misfire is worse- after warm up it can be quite evident above 3500 rpm. Additionally I now get a low coolant warning every so often. A check of the radiator shows the mechanical coolant indicator rise to its full height.

I have kept my use of the X5 to a minimum, and now that I have the NT710 code reader, the only motor electronics codes present are 7B, DME: Activation, map cooling and A8 DME: Thermostat, map cooling, mechanical, jammed open.

Thank you all for any insight!

Look factory or noticeably different?
And if anyone has had them a while if they faded or experienced any other issues. At $60 they are less than a third the price of the Magentii Aftermarkets FCP Euro sells, and about a 5th the cost of genuine.

And then there is the 'intermediate priced option' on Amazon as well..

I'm sure you probably get what you pay for, but thought I'd ask anyway..
