Yes,
I think many in this country will immediately attribute any Obama loss to racism. I have some pretty smart friends who are Obama supporters and they already cry that if Obama isn't elected it's because he's black. It's as if when discussing a candidate for President, all my smart friends have COMPLETELY lost their brains. They treat Obama like he is the Messiah and ANYONE who doesn't vote for him must be either outwardly or inwardly racist. It doesn't cease to amaze me how smart people really think that the only reason why someone wouldn't vote for Obama is race. Just reminds me how STUPID politics is and why I can't stand being around people who get so caught up in it, they can't see anything outside of the small little box they have decided to live in.

Much has been written in the general media about how many political polls should be discounted by several points due to the assumption that many people tell pollsters what they think they want to hear and do not want to appear or reveal their true prejudices. Once they are in the privacy of the polling booth they will cast their vote as they truly believe, with many voters allowing their racism dictate their choice based on learned provincial fear of superficial difference of race and not on rational judgment, even if they agree with many of the stands on the issues with a candidate. BTW, this works both ways for both whites and blacks.
Therefore, I do think the total vote count for McCain and Obama on Nov. 4th will be much closer than what the current polls are indicating, even factoring in their margin of error. AVB-AMG

However, the (mis)perception does not equal the reality.
One can easily find as many issues against O as M. As has been shown here. It will most likely be treated with all the dignity and respect displayed throughout OJ's (first) murder trial.

Here's another question:
If McCain doesn't win, will the country deem it AGEISM? - He lost my vote, not because he's old but because of his potential predecessor. So how many votes did McCain lose because he is aging and his a very questionable running mate?

The answer is no and if the media plays it that way they would be playing with fire.
The facts are that Obama is a major party candidate; he is leading in the polls, with a legitimate chance of winning. If he does not win, it does not mean the country is racist. If it was he would not have been a contender in the first place. On the other hand, one cannot argue that there are no racist elements in the country. Are they large enough to change an election? If it as close as the last two elections, my answer would be yes.
