I just jump started my car the othe rday because of a bad battery. i connected to the (+) terminal and grounded to one of the strut bolts. I connected the other to the my MDX and had it running. Your car needs a lot of juice to start, teh only thing that I can think of it what ever you hooked to didn't have enough juice. My two cents....

Nope never.. You should've tried a different ground for the negative cable. If not, then there is something wrong with the positive terminal.

Most likely a bad connection at the cable clamps at either the dead vehicle or the good battery, combined with cables that are too light a gauge.

- I've experienced that same situation on older BMW's and apparently it was due to a severely drained battery. Haven't done it on an X5 yet (fingers crossed)
- I've found that portable jumper boxes sometimes just don't have the juice to do the job. - No issue with jumping an OBD2 car, just follow the manufacturer's instructions and you'll be fine. (ie. Before disconnecting the jumper cables from your BMW, turn on the rear window defroster and set the blower to the highest speed; allow the engine to run approx. 10 seconds. This will prevent a voltage surge from the voltage regulator to the electrical accessories) |

I just had to throw my truck on the charger due to the battery dying from the stereo being on too long. Now the ABS, Brake and DSC lights are on
I've tried shutting it off and restarting, but they're still there...wtf?!
