x5 w curt hitch and wiring in action !!!

this was quoted by goedart in another thread

Stupid is installing an inferior curt hitch without caring if it destroys your sub-frame?

so i felt the need to share that ive taken my 1021lb trailer and 2 400lb quads on a few of these trips before and have had zero probs !!

averaging an 80-85 mph speed while on majors highways !!

Looking good! That's a great shot!

I just can't see myself running the X through sand. The X is no garage queen but she's going to stay on the pavement. I already don't like it when it rains!

Well, at least you use your X like it should! Work hard and play hard!

I saw your post that states you didn't care if it damaged your frame so that was in reference to that comment. Actually, I am glad it is working out for you. I almost did the same thing but unfortunately I have a much heavier boat to tow and didn't want to risk it. Now I am looking to install a brake controller. As I am sure you have seen on the board, people have had problems with damage from the aftermarket hitches but with your application, it shouldn't be much of a concern.
I just don't appreciate being called stupid for making a good decision and I am not looking for an argument if you are not from the dealership. Keep in mind I did apologize for being wrong about who you were. Nice truck! I crashed one of those quads last weekend. Be careful, They bite!

TaMbALoLoNg is an unknown quantity at this point
Good thing I dont have to worry about my towing needs. My QX56 is on a hot standby for that.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
Same setup I have, and I tow a smaller lighter trailer for my 3 wheeler. If/when I get a bigger heavier setup to tow I will add internal braces to make the curt a similar design to the OEM and almost as strong. (but that involves actually machining and welding the steel I bought... and I'm lazy)

Well I hope you never do run into problems with the Curt or any other aftermarket hitch, because I'd bet anything that BMW would tell you your SOL if your frame gets bent/damaged and you better hope the next buyer of your X5 doesn't get it too thoroughly inspected prior to purchase.

I don't know who made the comment you referenced above (which was a little rude IMO) but personally I would never take that kind of risk with an $80,000 car just to save $300.
