CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

just had my check engine light come and now its annoying me..should i be worried i mean i had check engine lights go on, on my american cars and i just ignored them cause i had an idea what it was usually its the damn oxygen sensor had those replace so many times but being that its a beamer dont know what to expect car is running fine no shakes nothing riding like i first bought the car...i put gas the day before obvious put premium gas running good went up williamsburg bridge in new york city came down the bridge bingo there goes the light on...

before i take it to the shop anything i should look around for like a gas cap loose which i already checked anything else

Could be anything, easiest way to start the diagnosis process is to have the faults read by an auto parts store for free to see if it is anything that needs further diagnosis.

caps arent necessary. run-on sentences, also not necessary...

sorry i know this isnt english class, but its easier to read when it makes gramatical sense.

and about the gas cap, the car will actually tell u if the gas cap is off...so it shouldnt set off the engine light.

it could be anything, you should get it checked out though..if it is something big you could be hurting yourself by waiting

Not all BMW's tell you check gas cap... most of them up to about 06 or so just had the DMTL system leak fault stored as a result, occompanied by the SES light.

It's the recent cold weather.

My X5 was fine until the last 3-4 days of this cold temperatures. My DSC, ABS, Brake lights all went on. Let the truck run for a few minutes to warm her up, then shut her off a minute, start her back up and the lights are all gone. Then today at work, my SES & DSC light went on. Shut her down, wait a few, then started her back up. All lights were gone! My X5 must really hate cold weather and maybe she's giving me a hint to move to Florida.

Though about 3 weeks ago I had my control arms replaced and told my Indy to run a Diagnostics too. Got a code for the Steering Angle Sensor. I read here on the forum that the Steering Angle Sensor can trigger those faults as well. But it doesn't account for the cold weather though.

Anyway, I just ordered OBD code reader a few days ago (Actron). I'll just keep it along with me just to monitor the X5. If it is indeed the Steering Angle Sensor, looks like i'll be in the shop again to have it replaced.
