No drive to front wheels ?
![]() ![]() She's been in the car doctors lately to have a front diff replaced as well as a new offside front drive shaft...... ![]() Now even with the new parts, still no drive at all to the front wheels ? Took her into a muddy field .. foot down ... rears were spinning for a short time then power seemed to drop to the rear wheels ? NOTHING happening from the front ! So to me, the transfer box was cut power to the rears but did not transfer any to the front ? ![]() I tried this with and without 'DSC' - same result ? Any help mucho thanks

Well, with the X-drive transfer case there are clutch packs internally that transfer power to the front wheels, and en electric drive motor to activate the clutches. If the motor didn't work, the wedge/pressure system bearing or the clutch plates are worn it wouldn't be able to transfer the power. You may need to have the case replaced. BMW can not rebuild them or even get the parts individually, so replacement is just about the only option you have unfortunately (if this is the case)

Might just be something simple like the actuator on the transfer box. Get underneath and look for something that looks like a wiper motor. Make sure the lead has been plugged back into it? Mine is unplugged so I have no power to front wheels, albeit intentionally but that's another (lonnngggg) story.

If you look underneath at the transfer casing you really cant miss it. Its not covered up by the bottom shield or whatever its called, so there is no need to remove anything. It a small motor about 6 inches long and should have a cable going to it with a big plug. Disconnecting it stops the xdrive system sending any power through the transfer box (by magic, no idea how it works!).
I unplugged mine because i have a serious wobble issue that nobody in the omniverse seems to be able to cure without me spending thousands! no drive to front wheels equals no wobble. Happy days! Although i do need to plug it back in and put up with it when it snows...... |

Bluejazzer, the wobble is usually from the case being worn out and not being able to properly engage the front wheels. Unplugging the motor/actuator on the case leaves it disengaged thus no wobbly feel. Unfortunately the way to fix that is to replace the transfer case.
