New member and thanks...

Hey All,

I've been skulking on this forum for the past couple of years since I added an 05 X5 4.4 to the stable. I've been a long time Audi S4 and RS4 guy but have been going back to BMW over the past few years.

I really enjoy the X5 and I'm always surprised at just how nimble and quick this heavy beastie can be.

Thanks to all that post the DIY as well...I've spent long hours changing half shafts recently and the DIY postings certainly helped...we were even able to expedite the process in a few areas which we will share of course.

Very few problems on my X5 with the exception of the occasional lurching at 35mph which mysteriously goes away when I take it to the shop. The odd shudders under braking above 70mph...(and again, the posts here have helped narrow down the concern).

Cheers!

Here's the X outside of Nellis AFB, NV.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
If the lurching at 35mph is only when cruising under very slight throttle it may be the transfer case since you have x-drive. But different rolling diameter tires can cause that symptom by confusing the x-drive so to speak. If youre front and rear tires are different brands even it could be just enough out of "tire dimension tolerance" to make it act up.

Thanks, Weasel.

The tires are same brand and I always replace all the tires (this thing likes to eat tires as I'm sure you all know) at the same time especially with AWD and from my Audi experiences.

The lurching seems to be a transmission issue since it acts like it isn't sure which gear to be in...perhaps a re-program of the transmission? It only happens at the exact same speed range...from 33-35mph. When it's in sport shift mode (or whatever BMW calls it...I call it "Tip" mode from my Porsche days) it doesn't do it.

Any other possibilities?
