After witnessing Porsche and AMG rack up thousands of sales with their respective Cayenne and ML models, BMW is now primed to launch its own high-performance version of the X6 SUV. These latest spy shots show the car’s new front cowling, revealing much larger intakes than any previous X6 model plus a slightly revised grille and new side mirrors. While still powered by BMW’s new 4.4L V8 twin-turbo engine, output is expected to be higher than the current 400hp (298kW) and 450lb-ft (600Nm) torque in the xDrive50i. The same powertrain is expected to feature in a similar version of the X5 SUV, which has also been spotted testing in prototype form. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Did our spies stumble across an M version of BMW’s new X6? It definitely seems so, if you look at their photos...
The biggest give-away on this prototype is the quad exhaust and side vents, which could hint to the true identity of this not-so-mild-mannered X6. Furthermore the vehicle appears to have a more aggressive stance than the normal X6, while at the front there are larger air intakes too. So, all of this indicate that a performance version of the X6 is on its way. Rumour has it that it is going to be powered by a tuned version of the 4.4-liter V8 engine, however, it could even get the current M5’s V10 engine. An M-powered X6 will compete with Porsche’s Cayenne Turbo S, Mercedes ML63 AMG and other high-performance crossovers. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looks like it's lower than the X6. No way on the V10.

I agree, no way on the V10. They would definately want the torque and economy of the tt in a big heavy truck like that. A typical high-revving NA M-engine would not suit the vehicle. I bet LeMansX5 was talking about a TT V8.
