What's difference between 3.0 and 4.8 fan clutches? I wonder if the OEM fan is not spinning up on the top end? On some engines, I like to ditch the engine top cover. Better to hear a little more V8 power over heat collection.
Would a import "Radiator Fan Clutch 2595" work?

There's a HUGE size difference and all the other clutches are too thin and won't let the fan clear the engine.

Oh, you need a mod! Truck clutches have long shafts. We need info.
What's the length between the water pump pulley and radiator? What's the stock 3.0i plastic fan size? What's the max fan size a 3.0i fan shroud will accept? I bet we could find something to fit. I did a mod like this once. Bought a new Ford Explorer 3.0 V6 clutch and fan. Installed it on a 1996 GMC 4.3 V6 for extra cooling. The Explorer fan is plastic. It also has more fins. The GM fan was metal and heavy. Plus, the fan was moved closer to the engine. The fan was ideally placed in the shroud. The mod pulled extra air through the condenser and radiator.

Shutdown at 0450 this morning air temp was 41c and coolant temp was 105c.
Left work at 1400 with air temp at 49c with startup coolant temp at 59c from sitting in the sun. I was really hoping to get fingerprints someday... ![]() Sent from Embassy network using Tapatalk

The 3.0i mechanical fan is 16.5". The above Explorer fan is 17.5-18". A shroud would need to trimmed to fit a "truck" neck clutch/fan. The IS shroud would likely need to have the fan cut out. A front auxiliary fan would be no problem. I have an article with more Explorer fan info somewhere. I'll look for it. The gap between the IS pump and radiator would be helpful.

Here's a nice conversion video. Short nose to long nose clutch conversion. Go to time mark 1:50.
