Talking My best mod yet - MEGA POWER !!

Well, placed an order with tunit - www.tunit.co.uk for a box that goes in-line with the engine management system. It claims to increase the power from 218BHP to 260BHP (X5 3d Sport).

Got the thing this morning - very good service (took less than 3 days after placing the order).

It took about 20 minutes to install - had to remove the engine cover using a torx screwdriver, then plug a few things in - simple. Here are the pics of it installed -

I cable tied it to a metal thing sticking out from the side. Also cable tied the cable to stop any rattles.

The cable routed under the engine cover and cable tied as shown in the pic below -

Simple!!

Now for the test drive. I will post some video tomorrow when the weather is better.

The unit has 9 settings - 1(low) - 9(high)

It's comes on setting 5. My first test drive was in this setting and it felt like a different car. The throttle was more responsive, the pulling power was incresed throughout the whole range. It was quicker than ever - at least a second quicker 0-60 (if not more). But overtaking was amazing - different car all together.

I then changed the setting to number 8. WOW!! The red line appeared very quickly in the first 4 gears - the car shot to 120mph - I then slowed down. The car was amazing, think it caught a few other drivers by surprise - they must have thought 4.8???? The only thing wrong with it in this setting, however, was I could hear the engine fighting for air when I floored it - better air filter required? (I have placed an order for a K&N one - tunit advise this is fitted to experience the full potential of this product).

I have now put the setting to 6 and will leave it in this setting. The power is fantastic - it's honestly a different car - for the better. There is no more smoke at all (day or night). In fact, I can't see any smoke at all, unlike before.

I will phone the insurance company first thing tomorrow to see how much extra I need to pay for this pleasure

The turbo engines get a much better response from software changes than NA engines. A frind of mine has an F350 turbo deisel i think its 7.3 liter V8. He put a power program and exhaust and doubled his hp and almost tripled his torque. IT did a 20sec quartr mile stock. he did a 14 sed quarter mile after the 2 mods. Mind you this is a daulie f350 pickup truck. It cost him 1000 dollars. Just amazing what turbo desiels can do.

Sounds awesome Dave! - well, except for that last line... Do you really need to call your ins. company?
Aside from that, I wish I could try one of those diesels out - sounds like an excellent mod!

Yea i didnt even notice you said that. Do not call your insurance company and tell them nothing. They dont need to know and already take enough of your money

Dave does need to call his insurance company, as he is licensed/registered/insured in the UK. Entirely different rules than many are used to in North America.

wow! it says on the website that torque goes up to 404lb-ft. Sounds like a awesome mod, but it looks like it's only for diesel engines. I wonder if they have one for regular gas engines?

Not nice!Dave P. kindly posted this thread to show us what a great performance mod he has done! I dont believe he needs this sort or sarcasm!!!

The Tunit "box" is an excellent product and its also reprogrammable with a Laptop, meaning that you can move you power/torque where you like and have your extra power come in suddently or smoothly. The same "box" can be use on the majority of "Common Rail " cars ranging from a 1.3 litre to a 4.O litre turbo diesel engine!

Should you make other alterations to your engine such as a larger intercooler or ,exhaust or inlet ,you can program the "box" to take full advantage of thése alterations and give your even more power! Its here That may be I agree with your remark!Maybe then Dave P.will need to GET ONE THAT GOES UPTO 11!
