Jump starting with the X5

Last week, the wife's Suburban wouldn't start. Rolled it out into the driveway and attempted to jump it with the X. Found the terminals under the hood - but when I hooked up the cables, I got nothing. Not even a little spark. Am I doing something wrong here, or is it possible that the previous owner replaced the battery and didn't get the cable properly connected? Thoughts?

Where did you connect the ground cable? it has to be metal and not a painted surface.

If you connect to the positive terminal on the firewall and to the ground lug on the driver side fender you should have 12V with the engine running.

It looks just like the positive lug but it's mounted on the inside of the driver side (left hand drive) fender. Also, it doesn't have a cover on it like the positive terminal. It's located just outboard of the oil filter and power steering res on a 4.4 ltr.

SS is right on...pos stub on left and ground, (neg) lug on right, with hood open facing the car, (lug is on Driver's side).

I run my Batt Tender through there: there is power there, if hooked
properly. If you have you motor on, it should fire up any other car,
no prob.

Sudesh,
Just curious, what's the wiring for? My 2001 4.4 ltr had nothing connected to it. It now has an additional engine ground cable connected. It was apart of my troubleshooting of the "no start" feature.
