Brake, ABS and DSC lights on

Hi guys,

My 2002 X5's battery died a few days ago - I started the car using jumper cables but the lights for the brake, ABS and DSC stay on, and also on the yellow color.
Any suggestions how can I fix this?
Any recomandation for a new battery?
Thank you,

- any help will be greatly appreciated

Start the car and turn the wheel all the way to the right - then all the way to the left.

Dont know why but it resets those lights for me.

OK, this was a long road for me to figure out, but I finally did so I hope I can save you some grief, time and money. I did the "turn the wheel back and forth thing" (many times) but it did not work for my 2002 3.0si X5. If you needed to jump your X5, then it's time for a new battery. Forget the dashboard lights for now - here's a good battery type and installation instructions - just follow this link:

http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...placement.html

An Autozone Gold Duralast 94R-DLG with 8 year warranty is about $119. That did the trick for me. They also offer a 49-DL with a 7 year warranty for about $69. In any event make sure the battery you choose has an external vent connection for the vent hose which is vented to the outside.

Once you have the battery replaced, you most likely will need to have the DSC fault codes read and reset. Most likely cause is one of the wheel's Steering Angle Sensor reports a fault with less than 9 Volts at that wheel, most likely, the drained battery (with the key on trying to start the vehicle) caused that fault code (DOH!). DO NOT let the dealer ($tealer) talk you into replacing the sensor. Politely tell him to clear the fault code so the lights will go out and you'll be on your way. Cost is about $114. If the fault code is not reset/cleared, DSC & ABS are definitely disabled until the fault code is reset/cleared. Follow this link for my story and experience at the $tealer where they wanted to charge me $400 for a new Steering Angle Sensor which did not need replacement - again, just reset the fault code to re-enable the DSC & ABS systems.

For additional information on testing your X5 for the infamous "battery drain problem", follow this link and see my testing results at the last page of the thread.

Anyway, I apologize for the long post, but I spent over a month to figure all this out - but I did get great help from our friends on this forum. Bottomline, replace your battery and have the service fault codes reset, that's it! Welcome to X5World and I hope this information is helpful to you. Let us all know everything goes!!!

You are very welcome and glad we could help out! You got lucky with the "turn the wheel" thing. Mine had a fault code that would'nt clear on it's own. Anyway, glad it all worked out for you and welcome to the forum! Post some pics of your X5!!!
