Deciphering Which Options You Have on Your X5

This article is to help you determine which options you have on your X5.

DISCLAIMER: RABBIT IS IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE IF SOME OF THIS INFORMATION IS INCORRECT. I TRIED MY BEST TO RESEARCH THESE OPTIONS, BUT BMW IS VERY STRANGE AND DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND. You have self-leveling rear suspension if you have this, located to the right of the light controls

Here is the location of the adjustable ride height controls again

That little dot (sensor) on the upper center of the mirror is the sensor. 2004-2006 models come with a compass too


Side view mirror is normal colored (auto-dimming/electrochromatic)


Side view mirror has a blue "anti-glare" tint (no auto-dimming)

Last button that looks like (!) is the tire pressure monitor. RDC on 2000-2003 models


Xenon/Adaptive Bi-Xenon (2000-2003 3.0i/4.4i xenon; 2004-2006 3.0i adaptive bi-xenon; 2004 4.4i adaptive bi-xenon; 2005-2006 4.4i standard; 2002-2006 4.6is/4.8is standard xenon/adaptive bi-xenon, respectively)


2000-2003 xenon headlights (a projector is there)

No projector


2004-2006 adaptive bi-xenon headlights (discretion, to tell if you have xenon bulbs, the lense must state so. if not, they are halogens)

Great post!! Wow thats a lot of leg work! You missed the 4.6 interior though (Alcantara) and at least in mine I have both the overhead and rear c-pilar controls for the rear seats.

Another way to tell if you have Xenons on a pre-facelift X is the hole in the baffle for your Xenon. The halogens don't have the hole (solid)

Kudos to you for making all of that effort! One thing I see needs changing-under sport seats, you have them as optional from 2000-2003. They were optional from 2000-2001, and then became standard with the sports package from 2002-on.

Do you have the M three spoke with the solid third bar? That was also used for the earlier sports packages if I am not mistaken.

Because the 3 spoke wheel didn't come out until the 2001 model year. All 2000's had the 4 spoke wheel.
