bluetooth phone

If you install the bluetooth module on a car that already has the bmw phone built in, does the bluetooth overide the bmw phone (so the bmw phone doesnt work anymore)

I guess it will be a easy fitting because the mic is already there and you just need to plug in the module? If so, how do you remove the bmw phone from the armrest?

In order to install the Bluetooth TCU (telecommunication control unit) you must first remove the CPT8000 TCU (or CPT7000 or CPT9000 if applicable). You will also want to remove the CPT phone eject box from the console so that you don't end up with an electrical conflict that causes problems with the Bluetooth module.

To remove the eject box and wiring I believe you may need to remove the console. Follow these instructions in reverse to uninstall the system - http://www.circlebmw.com/service/acc...4110009077.htm

BMW X5 (E53) Model Year 2000 with V-8 Engine
DIGITAL CELLULAR PORTABLE TELEPHONE
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
BMW MODEL CPT7OOO Carefully read ALL instructions packaged with the cellular phone before proceeding with installation. Those instructions dealing with a stock part of the vehicle, but not stated in detail, shouid be referenced with information in the TIS section of the DIS Tester, latest BMW Repair Manual, ETM, or microfiche. Left and Right are determined from the driver's seat.

PRE-INSTALLATION NOTES
  • All X5 (E53) production vehicles are prewired for CPT 7000 digital cellular phones.
  • Left and Right side dual coil speakers are factory installed as is hands free microphone wiring for hands free telephone operation.
  • In the CPT 7000 System the functions of the interface box (as used in the CPT 6000VR) are incorporated into the Portable Support Electronics ( PSE) Box. The separate interface box has been completely eliminated from the CPT 7000 system. The PSE Box contains the "Hands Free" circuitry. In addition, the PSE Box contains the charging circuitry for the handset battery. The optional compensator has replaced the power booster that was offered in the CPT 6OOOVR. The compensator differs from the power booster in that it does not boost the signal but rather compensates for any loss of signal strength in the antenna coax cable. The CPT 7000 Portable Handset contains the "Master Memory" (phone numbers, name tags, etc.) for the system. This information is transferred to the vehicle each time a handset is plugged into the coil cord and vehicle is turned on.
  • The Slim Line battery is the ONLY battery that should be used for in vehicle operation. Use of the larger battery in vehicle will cause problems when closing the armrest cover.

INSTALLATION OF COMPENSATOR FOR X-5

IDENTIFY THE MOUNTING BRACKET

It is possible that some early production vehicles were produced with a bracket (1) in the rear that requires an additional mounting bracket for the compensator. You will have to determine which bracket is in vehicle. Measure distance from top of bracket to top of threaded hole. Reference illustration S84 00 U24.

Determine measurement A.

49mm=early production
56mm=late production

If distance A is 49mm, follow compensator installation instructions on page 13.

If distance A is 56mm, compensator will need to be modified. Follow instructions in this section.

MODIFYING COMPENSATOR

BE SURE TO USE PROTECTIVE EYE WEAR DURING THE MODIFICATION PROCESS!

Be sure that protective covers on mini UHF connectors remain on compensator.
Cover Green 14 pin electrical connector with tape.
Use DREMEL tool or equivalent to modify compensator.

Hey Drex, or anyone else, do you have these installation instructions as a pdf so we can see the pictures? There are a few steps that I'd like to see how BMW did them.
