Test drove 3.0 today... disappointed w/ power

I test drove a 2007 x5 3.0 today and I was very disappointed with the power that it had or actually the lack of power... the SUV struggled to gain speed while getting on the freeway & was very noisy doing so.. also it shifted up & down a few times trying to settle in at fwy. speeds... even oon surface roads, i step on the gas & it just does not go... well it does, but very slowly, until it decides to downshift & slam my head into the headrest! The test drive was bad & I am not considering the 3.0 in its current form any longer... now i have to test drive the 4.8...

PS, anyone else notice that there is a delay or hesitation when you step on the gas from a complete stop?

I don't believe Diesels will arrive in California until 2008/2009 and at this point it has not been confirmed that the diesels will include X5's. When they do arrive i will be seriously looking at a 5 series.

Yea, after driving the 4.8i, I feel the V8 is the more worthwhile way to go. Just skimp on the options and it'll be within pricepoint of a loaded 3.0si anyway. The I6 is probably more potent in the lighter X3 anyway.

I have zero isues w/ power (or lack of) in my 3.0...quite fast actually. I have never been in a situation where I couldnt accelerate out of traffic, and I drive pretty hard.

Well, it will go eventually, but i feel that you just really have to drive it really hard to do so, and it is not smooth when yo have to drive it that way..

I interpret that as the car is not smooth (jerky, etc) as that doesn't sound like the engine, especially compared to the unbalanced V8. OK, that is a little harsh, it is a pretty smooth V8, but it is impossible for a V8 to be as smooth as a 6 or a 12.

If there was a hesitation in the throttle, lack of power, and jerky shifting I would suspect that this was a very low mileage vehicle, that hadn't learned your driving behaviour yet (throttle, and shifting have learning routines). Either that, or the vehicle had a mechanical problem.

There isn't that much difference between the 3.0 and the 4.8 if you are used to your 911; you may want to wait and see what the X6 is like with much more power than the current 4.8 (it is rumoured to be a twin turbo V8)
